A&M; Drops Second Game at Jacksonville State
Jacksonville, Ala. - For the first quarter and half Saturday night the Alabama A&M game plan played out perfectly. The Bulldogs controlled the line of scrimmage, held a big advantage in time of possession, and kept Jacksonville State’s much heralded offense in check. Anthony Green’s one-yard touchdown run with 11:17 remaining in the first half gave the Bulldogs a 12-10 lead as A&M converted a JSU fumble into six points. The Gamecocks, however, scored 21 points in the final eight minutes of the first half to put the game out of reach 31-12, and finished with a 45-18 win at Paul Snow Stadium.
Jacksonville State opened the scoring quickly, taking the opening kickoff four plays and 60 yards scoring on a 37-yard run by Daniel Jackson. Jackson finished the night with 122 yards on 16 carries.
A&M responded in the remainder of the first quarter with two Jeremy Licea field goals of 26 and 38 yards, respectively.
After a Gavin Hallford field goal gave JSU a 10-7 lead early in the second, A&M’s Jeremy Maddox forced and recovered a fumble on a quarterback sack at the JSU 16-yard-line to set up the only lead the Bulldogs would enjoy on the night on Green’s score.
The Gamecocks would scored the game’s next 35 points, including two touchdowns in the final 54 seconds of the half.
Ulysses Banks added the final score for the Bulldogs with 2:49 remaining in the game to make the final 45-18. Banks finished with 78 yards on the ground, and Kevin Atkins was 22-41 for 186 yards in the air. Gerald Stockdale caught six passes for 81 yards, and Thomas Harris caught seven balls for 69 yards. Alfred Williams recorded 10 tackles in his debut for the Bulldogs.
