VOLLEYBALL FALLS IN 2008 SEASON OPENER

TAMPA, Fla. – The Lady Tiger volleyball team dropped its first three contests of the yearin the 2008 USF Classic in Tampa, Fla.
In the opener on Friday night, the Lady Tigers fell in straight sets to tournament host USF in their season opener. Junior Kayla Williams led GSU in kills with eight in addition to four digs while senior setter Talon Morgan garnered 18 assists.
On Saturday morning, Grambling returned to the court and put forth a strong performance but lost once again in straight sets to Northeastern.
GSU was more aggressive in its second match as Williams recorded 11 kills in 32 total attacks. Ashley Cooper and Shawonna Davis both followed with five kills apiece. Morgan netted 26 assists in the match while Williams led GSU with 10 digs. Latisha Stennis and Morgan also had a strong afternoon defensively with seven and six digs, respectively.
In their tourney finale, the Lady Tigers played their best game of the tournament as they fell to
Eastern Kentucky
in five sets.
EKU dominated the first two sets to open the match but the Lady Tigers came out on fire in the third and fourth sets with 25-20 and 25-19 victories. In the fifth and deciding set, EKU managed to pull away from GSU as they closed out the match with a 15-9 win.
Kendra Johnson tallied 12 kills and nine digs in the match while Latisha Stennis had a monster game defensively with 19 digs. Morgan led the way with three aces followed by three assisted blocks from Shawonna Davis.
