Humphries declared eligible

The Alabama State Compliance Office announces that the NCAA has deemed graduate receiver Keon Humphries (Montgomery, AL/Mississippi State) eligible, effective immediately.

Humphries will be traveling to Tallahassee with the ASU football team that leaves Montgomery at 1 p.m. Friday. The team will face the Florida A & M Rattlers at Bragg Memorial Stadium Saturday in the first game of the season. Kick off is at 6 p.m. EST.

The Humphries situation centered around NCAA Bylaw 14.5.5.2.10 One Time Transfer Exception. The bylaw basically states that a transfer student-athletes from an institution that sponsors bowl subdivision football to an institution that sponsors championship subdivision football must have at least two seasons of eligibility remaining. Humphries only has one, thus a special waiver needed to be filed on his behalf.

“The key factor to the success of the waiver was demonstrating the difference between the Master of Science Degree of Sociology at Mississippi State University and our Master of Education Degree in Social Science. We are very thankful for the NCAA’s assistance during this process,” said Associate Athletic Director of Compliance Monique Holland.

Head coach Reggie Barlow said the team is excited about Humphries eligibility.

“We are happy for him,” said Barlow. “Keon is a Montgomery native, a good kid and has already graduated from Mississippi State University. He has connections here in our city. We are excited for him.”

Humphries is enrolled in the Master’s of Education program in Social Science.
