Hornets post victory over Clark
The Alabama State volleyball team posted their third win of the season, beating Clark Atlanta Wednesday, 25-20, 13-25, 25-19, 25-22.
“I am very excited for us, the coaches and the team,” said head coach Sonia Price. “During preseason the girls worked really hard. I just hope that our young ladies don’t get to complacent with winning on this level of competition. They are going to be dangerous by time November comes around.”
Senior Shajuana Pina (Ft. Walton Beach, FL/Ft. Walton Beach Senior) led the Hornets’ attack with eight kills, while sophomore Althea Russell (Mobile, AL/LeFlore) and junior Jessica Holt (Montgomery, AL/Carver) added seven kills each. Holt chipped in with team-highs in block solos (two) and block assists (three).
Junior Anna Meinert (Arab, AL/Arab) recorded a team-highs with 19 assists, eight digs and five service aces.
Alabama State (3-2) will return to the courts for its home opener Friday as they host the annual ASU Invitational with Clark Atlanta, Alabama A&M, Mississippi Valley State, North Carolina A&T and Southern. The invitational is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. in Lockhart Gymnasium with the Hornets playing their first match at 6 p.m.
