The Southern Jaguars will open up the 2008 season on the road in a tough out-of-conference matchup with Conference USA’s, University of Houston on Saturday, August 30, 2008 at 6:00 pm. This is the first ever meeting between the two schools. Southern will look to build on last season’s 8-3 overall mark, 6-3 in the SWAC Western division. SU finished in 2nd place in the division, behind Grambling State. The Jags return 46 lettermen for 2008, including 17 starters (6 offensive, 8 defensive 3 special teams).

The University of Houston will look to expand on their 8-5 overall record (6-2 in C-USA). The Cougars finished second in the West division a year ago, although they would make it to the Texas Bowl. They eventually would fall to TCU, 20-13 in the contest.
