VOLLEYBALL PICKED TO WIN WEST, PLACE THREE ON ALL-SWAC TEAM
With the start of volleyball season less than a week away, the Grambling State Lady Tigers received a positive start to the season as they were picked to win the SWAC West in the annual preseason poll. On an individual note, the trio of Latisha Stennis, Kayla Williams and Talon Morgan earned preseason All-SWAC honors.
Led by fifth-year head coach Kim Young, the Lady Tigers garnered 88 points and a total of 12 first place votes to earn the preseason nod in the SWAC West. Last season, the Lady Tigers won the west and finished the year as the runner-up in the 2007 SWAC Tournament at Prairie View A&M.
Individually, the duo of Williams and Stennis were named to the All-SWAC First Team while setter Morgan was selected to the second team. Williams, a 5-10 junior from Toronto, Canada, earned a spot on the 2007 All-SWAC Tournament Team in addition to Kountze, Texas native Morgan. Stennis, a 5-8 senior from East St. Louis, Ill., earned All-SWAC Second Team honors in 2007 along with Morgan.
Grambling begins the 2008 season on the road next Friday evening versus South Florida in the annual South Florida Classic at 6 p.m.
