Devilettes Unlucky in Loss to Ladies
Itta Bena, Miss. — Despite eight shots on goals the Devilettes of Mississippi Valley State soccer team could not get any in the net as they suffered a, 2-0, loss in their home opener to the Ladies of Centenary College.
The two teams played 34 minutes of scoreless soccer before the Ladies edge their way onto the scoreboard with an unassisted goal by Chelsea Granger with nine minutes remaining in the half.
With five minutes remaining in the second half the Ladies put the game away when Kristine Weaver found Katie Valdez on the right wing, Valdez placed the ball just past the outreached arms of Devilettes goalie Jordan Thomas to secure the 2-0 victory.
Pella Hand had a strong game for the Devilettes that recorded a total of 13 shots. Kate Johnston had two shots on goal. Thomas finished the game with six saves.
The Devilettes (0-2) will return to action August 29th when they travel to Murray, KY to take on MurrayStateUniversity.
