TIGERS COMPLETE SECOND SCRIMMAGE OF CAMP
Under an overcast sky, the Grambling State Tiger football team scrimmaged for the second time of training camp on Saturday afternoon at Robinson Stadium. Unlike the first scrimmage, which featured no scoring by the offense, the offense managed to walk away with two touchdowns during the 120-play scrimmage.
Senior wideout Nick Lewis, known for his big-play ability over the years, scored the first touchdown of the scrimmage as he outjumped the defender and raced towards the endzone for a 71-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Greg Dillon. However, that was the only score Dillon could manage from that point as the sophomore from Bogalusa, La. fell victim to the interception bug with three passes picked off.
On the final drive of the scrimmage, sophomore quarterback J.P. Tillman drove deep into the red zone before scoring on a 4-yard scamper on 4th-and-4. During the drive, sophomore fullback Chris McIntosh had several solid runs highlighted by a 20-yard reception that moved GSU into scoring position.
Defensively, the Tigers once again had a solid performance in run defense as their swarming to the ball prevented any long runs by any of the GSU running backs.
Unofficially, Dillon finished 17-of-26 for the afternoon with three interceptions and a touchdown while Tillman completed 10-of-19 passes with an interception and rushing touchdown. Lewis had a strong outing with six receptions for 117 yards and a touchdown.
Saturday’s scrimmage marks the end of two-of-day practices for the Tigers as classes begin at Grambling on Monday morning. With less than two weeks left until their season opener at Nevada on Aug. 30, the Tigers will begin to focus squarely on the Wolf Pack from this point.
