LADY PIRATES VOLLEYBALL PICKED TO FINISH FIFTH IN MEAC NORTH
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Hampton University volleyball team was selected in a preseason poll to finish fifth in the MEAC Northern Division on Tuesday, as voted on by the league’s head coaches and sports information directors.
The Lady Pirates, which went 11-19 last season and finished with a 2-8 MEAC record, received 143 points in the preseason poll, lining up fifth among the six teams in the Northern Division. Maryland-Eastern Shore, with 245 points, is the preseason favorite. The Lady Hawks went 24-4 overall last season, going 10-0 in league play.
Defending MEAC champion Florida A&M was selected to win the Southern Division, receiving 21 first-place votes and 261 total points. The Lady Rattlers went 18-8 last season, including a perfect 8-0 in conference play.
Hampton will kick off the 2008 season Aug. 29-30 at the Tiny Laster Memorial Tournament, which will be held at the Boo Williams Complex in Hampton. Conference play will begin Oct. 3 and the Lady Pirates will play host to the 2008 MEAC tournmaent, Nov. 14-16 in Holland Hall.
