Former Volleyball Standout to Represent Howard at NCAA Woman of the Year Luncheon
NORFOLK,
VA. - Former Howard University volleyball
standout Morgan Maxwell was named the runner up at the 2008
Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Woman of the Year luncheon
on July 24 in Norfolk.
She is the second athlete from HU to be recognized as basketball
alumna Courtney Smiley took home top honors last year.
University of Maryland Eastern
Shore’s Jessica Worsley won the award this year. Both Worsley and
Maxwell will represent the conference at the NCAA Woman of the Year
luncheon.
Maxwell graduated this spring with
a degree in Psychology with a double minor in Biology and Spanish.
The Charlotte, N.C. native led the Bison in kills (254) and kills
per game (2.37) and ranked second on the team in assists.
She has studied abroad in Ecuador
and Costa Rica and was a volunteer English teacher at the Latin
American Youth Center in Washington, D.C. Maxwell received the
2006-07 NACDA/Coca-Cola Community All-American Award and will work
on her master’s degree at Vanderbilt University this fall.
The NCAA Woman of the Year award
recognizes female student-athletes who have completed their
eligibility and demonstrated excellence in academic pursuits,
athletics, community service and leadership.
