SAVANNAH, Ga- The Savannah State women’s basketball coaching staff added another player to their 2008-09 recruiting class with the signing of Darice Fountaine.
"We are excited about wrapping up our ‘08 recruiting class with the signing of Darcie," said Lady Tigers head coach Cedric Baker.
"The staff did a pretty good job in meeting our needs of getting bigger stronger and faster," he added.
Fountaine, a 5-10 wing player out of Kapaun Mount Carmel High School in Wichita, Kansas who was named to the state 5A All-State team, is the sixth signee for the Lady Tigers.
"She is the first player we recruited from Kansas," said Baker. He went on the say "collectively, from an academic and athletic standpoint, our needs were met with Darcie signing with us."
During her senior season, Fountaine led her team to a 13-8 record and averaged 18.9 points a game, 10.6 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 2.4 steals. She also had 22 blocks. Fountaine’s best game of the season was a 65-52 win over East in January where she scored 30 points and pulled down 12 rebounds.
"She can play multiple positions," said Baker. "She will make a immediate impact at small forward and will meet immediate needs on the offensive and defensive boards," he added.
Fountaine plans to major in marine science.
