TUCKER ADDS TWO MORE PIECES TO A HOPEFUL CHAMPIONSHIP PUZZLE
Fayetteville, NC - Fayetteville State University Head Women’s Basketball Coach Eric Tucker has secured two more student-athletes in the quest to capture the CIAA Championship this season.
Tucker has signed a dominant high school center from Richmond, VA and a transfer point guard from Campbell University he hopes will help elevate this team further than their 2007-08 CIAA tournament semi-finals appearance and help the Lady Broncos contend for the 2008-09 title.
Déjà Middleton, 6-4, center (Meadowbrook HS, Richmond, VA) - Averaged 16.6 points and 9.1 rebounds as a senior. In her senior campaign, Middleton led her team to a 25-2 overall record and a perfect 14-0 conference record; Meadowbrook had the best record in the entire AAA Virginia High School League for the 2007-08 season.
With the successful All-Conference performance Leticia Dickson had for the Lady Broncos last season after transferring from Campbell University, Coach Tucker was more than willing to welcome in another transfer Fighting Camel guard.
Ashley Wright, 5-4, point guard (transfer from Campbell University, Halifax, NC) — Played at Southeast Halifax High School where she helped lead the Trojans to the North Carolina 1A State Championship Game and a Tar Roanoke Conference Championship as a senior. Wright was named conference MVP, MVP of the conference tournament and a Wendy’s High School Heisman nominee. She averaged 21.0 points, 5.0 assists, 6.0 steals and 3.6 rebounds per game during her senior year. She was also a three-time all-conference honoree and was named all-state following her freshman season.
“This should really be a solid addition to our frontcourt and backcourt,” said Coach Tucker when asked to comment on his latest signees. “Of course its way too earlier to predict what will happen this upcoming season, but we have a lot of big things happening for us and my coaching staff and I are very excited.”Coach Tucker announced earlier this off-season the addition of six other recruits {see FSU WOMEN ADD SIX RECRUITS} and was quoted in the Fayetteville Observer saying that this is one of his top five recruiting classes in his 17 years at Fayetteville State.
The Lady Broncos return three starters, potentially seven other student-athletes from last season, and guards Chelsea Jeter and Antoinette Smith are coming back off season-ending injuries. The team went 17-12 and 12-6 in CIAA conference play in 2007-08.
