SOUTHERN VOLLEYBALL EXCITED ABOUT SEASON
Baton Rouge, LA - The Southern University volleyball team will return to “the bluff” on Thursday, August 7th as they prepare for the 2008 season.
Head Coach Nathaniel Denu will enter his 28th season and is excited about it.
“I have been doing something I love for a long time and I still enjoy it,” said Denu. It’s been 28 years and I think I have a little bit in me for a few more.”
Last season the Lady Jaguars enjoyed success as they won the Tiny Laster volleyball tournament in Hampton, VA. The double digit victory total was also a first for the Blue and Gold since the 2002 season.
Leading the way for SU will be seniors Ena Payne and Lakenya Simpson. Payne was named to the 2007 All-SWAC second-team. The honor was a first for a Southern volleyball player in five years. Simpson returns for her senior year after moving to the outside hitter position during the 2007 year.
The Jags will start their preseason workouts on August 8th at 5:30 am with the strength and conditioning coaches.
