BRONCOS’ NEW TALENT WILL BE SHOWCASED AT THE EAST-WEST ALL-STAR GAME
Fayetteville, NC - Four new additions to the Fayetteville State University football team will participate in the North Carolina Coaches Association East-West All-Star Football Game on July 23, 2008.
Incoming freshman Jimmy Gross (West Craven HS), William Hunt (Plymouth HS), Larry McDonald (Hillsborough Orange HS), and Jamere Pugh (Southern Vance HS) have all been selected to play in the 2008 NCCA East-West All-Star Game.
The North Carolina Coaches Association exists to promote and improve athletics in North Carolina’s public schools and to foster high standards of ethics and sportsmanship.
This will be the 60th all-star football game for the NCCA. The contest will take place on Wednesday, July 23rd from the Jamieson Stadium in Greensboro, NC at 8:00 pm. Jamieson Stadium seats about 11,500 and crowds fill the stands each summer. Their will be a fireworks show at halftime and the game will be shown on Time-Warner’s “On Demand” channel.
This football game has featured hundreds of future NCAA Division I stars and many of the young men who have suited up have gone on to successful careers in the NFL. Over 3400 North Carolina student-athletes have had the chance to wear the royal of the East or the scarlet of the West in this intriguing rivalry.
Gross comes to the FSU having played receiver at West Craven High School. In his senior season, Gross led the area in receiving yards with 804 on 52 receptions with seven touchdowns.
Hunt leaves a very successful, state champion Plymouth High School team and to enter the collegiate ranks as a Bronco. He was a key blocker on the Vikings’ offensive line. The team developed a reputation for being able to score at will; two running backs rushed for 2,000 yards last season and 20 plus touchdowns.
McDonald joins the Broncos as a defensive lineman. He was a two-sport athlete at Hillsborough Orange High School; where he played football and baseball. McDonald played first base on the state champion Panthers’ baseball team and led the team with 31 RBIs and seven homeruns.Pugh was a standout quarterback at Southern Vance High School. Pugh led the Raiders to their first-ever state title appearance his junior season and passed for 1,800 yards last season with 21 touchdowns. The 5′11, 175 pound QB also stacked up 850 yards and 14 touchdowns on the ground.
